ELECTION FOR COUNCIL POSITION FOR 2012

The following profiles are for candidates standing for election for the position of Vice President.
Ballot papers will be sent out in March 2012.

Melville Hammett

My name is Mel Hammett and I am nominating for the position of Vice President of the Dogs NT (NACA).

I have been a member of the Dog World for 43 years as exhibitor, committee member and executive member of a number of Dog Clubs in various states of Australia. I am a Ring Steward, a Group 2 &4 Judge and am involved in the Judges Training Scheme as a Trainee for group 1.

I have been on the Council of the NACA for the past twelve years during which time I have been involved on several sub-committees such as the Rules committee, Disputes and Disciplinary committee and Trials Advisory Committee. I have held the position of Secretary of the NACA prior to becoming President.

I was President for four years and the last two years have held the position of Vice President. My main concern has been to try and maintain services and keep the organisation viable and my objective if elected is to work in conjunction with members, other state controls and the ANKC (both of whom I am familiar with) in keeping our organisation going.

I have served a fairly lengthy apprenticeship in the Dog World in general and on the Council in particular and I think I have proven over the past 12 years that I am Dedicated to the Dogs NT (NACA) and its members.

Cilla Wilkinson

I’m fairly new to the Canine world as in conformation showing & trialling, though I did own dogs when I was growing up. I believe I have what it takes to be Vice President of NACA for the following reasons:

• Previous experience with not for profit organisation at both State and National levels.
• Successfully secured approximately $455,000 and counting in grant funding for a number of organisations since 2006/07 till now.
• Secured goods and services for a number of worthwhile people/causes value not included in the above amount.
• Great network skills.
• Marketing/Promotional skills
• Able to think outside the circle to find a solution to problems.
• Can work with people from all walks of life and all abilities/disabilities.
• Capable of sourcing a wide range of items and services at very good rates/prices
• Never afraid to work hard.
• Advocate for human or animal rights as well as responsible dog ownership and breeding.
• Business management skills
• Promoting good sportsmanship in and out of the rings.

Carol Beckett

Carol Beckett Carol has been an active member of Dogs NT since the late 1980s. During this time she has been involved in the administration of several Kennel Clubs (DLKC, Canine Expo) and several Obedience Clubs (DODC and FRKOC). Carol has held the positions of Treasurer, Vice President, and Committee member.

Carol has been involved in the running of shows as show manager and also trials as trial manager, she has also stewarded at both events.

Together with her husband Carol has successfully trialled and exhibited their own dogs. Carol has also held the position of both obedience and show handling instructor with several clubs. Carol is also a conformation judge and has judged in most states of Australia with appointments at both all-breeds and specialist clubs.

Carol is a Secondary Science teacher with a double major in biology and minors in geology, ecology and genetics. Her love of dogs has stemmed from a lifelong association with a number of different breeds.

This is Carol’s second term as a councillor of Dogs NT. Carol served for many years during the late 90s and then after a break (while her children were young), is now back on council. Carol feels that she has a great deal to offer the NT dog fraternity, both through her decades of experience in the dog world and her appreciation for all forms of dog pursuits.

Carol is a serving member of the ANKC Canine Health and Welfare Committee who in recent years have had the ongoing job of preserving the rights of all ANKC members (Dogs NT included) against organised anti-dog lobby pressure from outside bodies. This is a fight that Carol is committed to take on behalf of all members, to ensure we can continue to participate in the hobby we all love so much.

Carol is a person who is open, approachable and above all fair-minded. Carol is at all times willing to listen to the wishes of all Dogs NT members. Carol is committed to taking the association forward and continuing to positively promote our interests in a public forum. Carol is seeking your support at this time for the position of Vice President of Dogs NT.
